Henry Cavill has been cast for a role in Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming Voltron movie. The live-action film is based on the popular mecha anime.

The upcoming Voltron movie will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. The filmmaker previously worked in Red Notice, the action story starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.

The classic 1980s cartoon centered on five young space pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions. Those vehicles are able to join together to form a mega robot known as Voltron.

Cavill is coming off "Argylle" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" along with a cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine".

Up next, Cavill is set to star in Chad Stahelski's "Highlander" reboot and Guy Ritchie's action adventure film "In The Grey", both for Lionsgate. He will also executive produce the "Warhammer 40,000" franchise across all Amazon MGM Studios productions.
