Taron Egerton joins Charlize Theron in survival thriller.

Taron Egerton is set to star opposite Charlize Theron in the Netflix thriller Apex with Baltasar Kormákur in directing.

Details about the movie are scarce but the script tells the story of a rock climber and adrenaline junkie (Theron) who discovers that nature isn't the only dangerous element out to get her when she goes on an expedition in the wild.

Jeremy Robbins has written the script which was picked up by Netflix before Theron and Kormakur boarded the project.

Netflix execs were so blown away by the script that they bought with only the producers on board. When it came to an actor and director, Theron and Kormákur were their first choices, and in another rare case both committed after reading the script.

Theron will produce the project along with Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono and AJ Dix via their newly launched media company; as will Kormákur through his RVK productions; Ian Bryce ;and Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready via through Chernin Entertainment.

Egerton broke out on the big-screen with Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation The Kingsman: The Secret Service and reprised his role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. He earned huzzahs for portraying singer Sir Elton John in Dexter Fletcher’s Rocketman for Paramount Pictures, garnering a Golden Globe award for best actor in a musical or comedy while receiving nominations from both BAFTA and SAG-AFTRA.

Kormákur is best known for his work on films like “2 Guns,” “Everest,” “Contraband” and “The Deep”. His last studio action film was 2022’s Idris Elba vs. lions film “Beast”.
