Brett Ratner will direct a new documentary on First Lady Melania Trump, which will be released in theaters and stream on Prime Video in the second half of 2025.
The film promises a rare, behind-the-scenes look at Melania’s life and is slated for a 2025 release.
Ratner’s friends told Variety that he saw directing a documentary as his way back into the industry. Surprisingly, Amazon agreed to back the project even while filming was still underway. This marks one of the few major projects Ratner has been attached to in recent years.
The movie began filming in December 2024, shortly after Donald Trump won the election, and intends to be completed and released in the second half of 2025. The untitled documentary project will be released theatrically as well as available exclusively on Prime Video, though no specific release plans in terms of the scope of the theatrical release were detailed.
The film is the latest connection between Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump. The company in December announced plans to donate $1m to help fund the president-elect’s second inauguration – and said that it would also stream the event on its Prime Video service, a separate in-kind donation worth another $1m.
The film also marks the first project that Ratner has directed since he was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, including actor Olivia Munn, in the early days of the #MeToo reckoning in November 2017. Ratner, whose lawyer denied the allegations, directed the Rush Hour film series, Red Dragon and X-Men: The Last Stand.
