PENELOPE CRUZ and JOHNNY DEPP had a deep connection on the set of their latest movie BLOW - they love fart jokes.

The pair spent all their time between takes fooling around with whoopee cushions, catching unsuspecting crew members out with their humour.

Cruz admits, "The more absurd the better. Silly things like this whoopee cushion. I love it! I just want to do it to everybody, but people seem to know it so well."

And Cruz is so fond of Depp she's developed a special name for her acting pal. She says, "He has an amazing heart. Johnny is so special that he is like a Martian. In fact that's what I call him - Martian."
