Angels Rough It

The CHARLIE'S ANGELS proved they had real mettle - when they spent three days all alone in the middle of the desert.

Screen beauties LUCY LIU, CAMERON DIAZ and DREW BARRYMORE were challenged by MARIE CLAIRE magazine to survive with no phones, no make-up and no agents.

The girls had intensive martial arts training for their roles in the hit film, but the magazine tested their capacity to cope without food, water, matches, torches, sleeping bags, sunglasses, radios and tents - the brave girls even managed to survive on swamp water and a single catfish.

As part of the character-building experience the girls, were required to keep a diary.

Drew found the adventure difficult, and woke up crying on day two, but felt better when she saw a tiny tree struggling to grow. She told her diary, "I felt so stupid. Why was I concerned with my own silly problems? Seeing this tree trying to make it was a huge step in the right direction."

ALLY McBEAL star Lucy felt the experience helped strengthen the bond between the three stars. She wrote, "We not only survived, we worked well as a team. Drew has so much strength and passion, and Cameron illuminates life everywhere she goes and is so genuinely curious. I am the luckiest person in the world to have eaten a catfish eyeball, drunk sewer water and dangled from a cliff in their company."

Beautiful Cameron found the trip really easy - she wrote, "I couldn't have felt more free or safe. It was magical."
