Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to star in NOLA King, a new spinoff of the streamer's Sylvester Stallone-led series Tulsa King. Jackson will reportedly play Russell Lee Washington Jr., who hails from the crime underworld just like Stallone’s Tulsa King character Dwight "The General" Manfredi.
Jackson, 76, will first step into the Tulsa King universe with a guest role in the third season now filming, setting up the spinoff’s narrative before moving into its own production pipeline. He joins the project as an executive producer, a role that gives him creative input alongside Sheridan and MTV Entertainment Studios.
Dave Erickson, who currently works with Sheridan on both "Tulsa King" and "Mayor of Kingstown", will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer on "NOLA King". Sheridan will also executive produce, as will David C. Glasser of 101 Studios. MTV Entertainment Studios will produce.
Tulsa King follows Sylvester Stallone as Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a New York mobster sent to Oklahoma after 25 years behind bars. Out of place but not out of moves, he wastes no time building a new crew and carving out power in unfamiliar territory.
Jackson is one of the most celebrated actors of his time. He received an Oscar nomination for his breakout role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction.” Since then, the two have worked together on films like “Jackie Brown,” “Django Unchained,” and “The Hateful Eight.” Jackson is also known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which he plays Nick Fury. His other noted film roles include “Unbreakable” and its sequel “Glass,” multiple “Star Wars” films,’ “Shaft,” and “Snakes on a Plane.” His TV credits include “Fight Night” and “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.”
