Movie star KATE WINSLET has been hailed as the "patron saint" of her new movie QUILLS.

The beautiful TITANIC actress received praise from screen writer DOUG WRIGHT for being the first big name to back the film about the life of scandalous 18th century French writer MARQUIS DE SADE, which also stars SIR MICHAEL CAINE, GEOFFREY RUSH and JOAQUIN PHOENIX

He says, "Kate's role was pivotal to the story." Wright also hopes the film will show today's generation that their controversial heroes are grounded in history.

He adds, "I want college kids to recognise him as the original rebel, before EMINEM and MARILYN MANSON." (CPT/WNWCAN)
