Directors, Writers In New Rift

Appearing to underscore the conflicting interests between two prominent Hollywood unions, Jack Shea, president of the Directors Guild of America has told members that contract demands by the Writers Guild of America could have a serious impact on the "creative vision" of directors in the production of movies. (A strike by writers could occur on May 2, when their current contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers expires.) As reported by today's (Wednesday) edition of the online magazine Inside, Shea wrote in his letter that he had recently met with WGA leaders in an attempt to work out a mutually acceptable creative code but was "extremely disappointed" with the writers' response.
