Echostar Enlists Top Attorney In Battle Against DIRECTV

David Boies, who was the government's lead attorney in its antitrust suit against Microsoft, has been retained by EchoStar Communications to handle its antitrust suit against rival DirecTV. EchoStar, which operates the Dish Network, claims that DirecTV is attempting to monopolize the satellite-TV market through such tactics as demanding that top retailers stop selling EchoStar receivers. Boies also represented Garry Shandling in his suit against manager/producer Brad Grey and is currently representing Napster, the Internet music site that enables users to trade recordings online, in its defense against copyright-infringement charges brought by the major record companies.
