Manson Won't Play Willy Wonka

A spokesman for Marilyn Manson has denied a report appearing in the British tabloid The Sun that Manson will play the title character in a remake of the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which originally starred Gene Wilder. In an interview with the online edition of the music publication New Musical Express , the spokesman said: "He is a big Willy Wonka fan and apparently he mentioned that in relation to a film he was thinking about doing in an interview last year. So unfortunately it doesn't look like it's true." A Studio Briefing reader has written that the Sun apparently pulled the remark out of context from an article that appeared in Interview magazine. In addition, Warner Bros. released a statement Wednesday stating that the director of the film is not Tim Burton, as stated in the original story, but Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Dave, Big) and that neither Ross nor the studio has any intention of casting Manson in any role in the film.
