KIRK DOUGLAS is planning to star in a remake of TENNESSEE WILLIAMS's NIGHT OF THE IGUANA - and he's hoping to persuade his son, MICHAEL, and new daughter-in-law, CATHERINE ZETA JONES, to join him.
Kirk, who has frequently admitted he'd like to work with his son, has been hard at work on a script rewrite of the 1964 film starring RICHARD BURTON, AVA GARDNER and DEBORAH KERR, and he's mailed it off to Michael for he and his new wife to take a look at it.
Kirk, a good friend of RAY STARK who produced the original movie, would take on the part of NONNO, "the world's oldest poet". If they agree, Michael will play Burton's role and Jones will step into Gardner's shoes. Kirk is also hoping to allow Stark, who has expressed a desire to remake the film, to produce again. Kirk says, "There's no reason to do the script the way it was done in 1964." (LE/DV/PDD)
