WGA Nominees Announced

Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy's Best in Show was a surprising pick Wednesday among the five best original screenplays nominated for the Writers Guild of America annual awards. Other nominees included Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, Lee Hall's Billy Elliot, Susannah Grant's Erin Brockovich and Kenneth Lonergan's You Can Count on Me. The Guest/Levy script beat out David Franzoni's script for Gladiator, William Broyles Jr.'s for Cast Away, Mike Rich's for Finding Forrester, and Ethan and Joel Coen's for O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Although the pair list Homer as a co-writer in the film's credits.) WGA nominees in the best adapted screenplay include: High Fidelity, adapted by John Cusack, D.V. DeVincentis, Steve Pink and Scott Rosenberg; Chocolat, adapted by Robert Nelson Jacobs; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, adapted by Wang Hui-Ling, James Schamus and Tsai Kuo Jung; Traffic, adapted by Stephen Gaghan; Wonder Boys, adapted by Steven Kloves.
