Most Expensive European Film Ever Is Blasted By Critics

The World War II drama Enemy at the Gates, which opened the Berlin Film Festival Wednesday night, received damning reviews in the German press on Thursday.

The BBC included these excerpts from the reviews on its Web site: The Berliner Zeitung: "It is a pity to have to say it but it was a dreadful opening." The Berliner Morgenpost: "The Waterloo of Stalingrad." The Frankfurter Allgemeine: "This work is a bitter disappointment."
