The 1999 film Being John Malkovich, which did not open in the U.K. until March of last year, was named Film of the Year by the London Film Critics' Circle Thursday night. It also won the best director award for Spike Jonze.
Billy Elliot was named British film of the Year, while Hidden Dragon, Crouching Tiger won best foreign-language film. Julia Roberts won the best actress award for Erin Brockovich and Russell Crowe was named best actor for Gladiator.
