Russell Hoping For Kate's Glory

Actor KURT RUSSELL is hoping KATE HUDSON will mirror her mother GOLDIE HAWN's OSCAR achievement - by winning an ACADEMY AWARD aged 21.

The BACKDRAFT star, Hawn's long-time partner, has noted the coincidence that Hudson, who is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in ALMOST FAMOUS, is the same age as her mum was when she picked up an award for her role in CACTUS FLOWER - and believes this could be a good omen.

He says of next month's (25MAR01) ceremony in Los Angeles, "It would be a fun night for us if Kate were to win. We would have a blast." And Russell, who Hudson regards as her surrogate father, thinks the upcoming actress deserves the award for her moving portrayal of PENNY LANE in the CAMERON CROWE movie He says, "I mean, there's one scene in that movie where, as an actor, I can tell you the degree of difficulty is as tough as it gets - to cry and laugh and go through eight emotions at one time."
