JULIA ROBERT's film THE MEXICAN has knocked HANNIBAL off the top of the American box office charts.
In its opening weekend, the comedy made just over $20 million (£13,333 million) compared to Hannibal's $10 million (£6,66 million) - the third time in a row a movie starring Julia Roberts has opened at the top of the box office chart.
PAUL DERGARABIAN from the box-office tracking company EXHIBITOR RELATIONS says, "This shows this woman almost can do no wrong. "I think people would go see Julia Roberts no matter what." SEE SPOT RUN, a new comedy starring DAVID ARQUETTE, also fared well although some experts believe its success may be in some part due to its being shown with the HARRY POTTER trailer. (RP/WNWCAN/KW)
