Quadrophenia Heading For The Stage

THE WHO's 'rock opera' QUADROPHENIA is to be turned into a stage musical.

The news was announced by The Who guitarist PETE TOWNSHEND on the diary section of his official website, WWW.PETETOWNSHEND.COM. He reveals that "TREVOR NUNN, the director of the NATIONAL THEATRE here in London has at last given his blessing to the development of a script and new score for a theatrical musical version of Quadrophenia. "The book is being written by the award winning playwright JOE PENHALL, with myself interfering a fair bit. I am very, very excited and pleased about this."

The new musical follows on the heels of the successful stage adaptation of The Who's 1969 album TOMMY. Quadrophenia, released in 1973 was made into a film in 1979, with PHIL DANIELS starring as JIMMY. (MCM/WNWCDO/RP)
