OSCAR-nominated blockbuster CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000) has beaten KEANU REEVES' smash hit MATRIX, The (1999) to win the best fight scene in cinema history.

Over 22,000 movie fans voting on ONLY-MOVIES.COM's survey reckoned the foreign language film's breathtaking rooftop combat was best. However, sci-fi thriller The Matrix was the overall winner, with three of its stunning scenes making the Top 10 at numbers two, five and six.

At three was LUKE SKYWALKER's showdown with DARTH VADER in the second STAR WARS film, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) with BRUCE LEE's hall-of-mirrors showdown in ENTER THE DRAGON (1973) fourth.

But it was not just the more vicious, bloodthirsty battles that did well in the poll. The timeless comic genius of LAUREL AND HARDY was honoured for their 1937 classic WAY OUT WEST, rewarded for "Best tickling fight ever".

The hilarious antics of JOHN CLEESE's BLACK KNIGHT in MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL and MIKE MYERS' battle with MINI-ME in the second AUSTIN POWERS flick also made the top 30. (EJB/WNTRE/MCM)
