KEVIN COSTNER and TOMMY LEE JONES are battling for a hot new movie role - as Irishman NICKY KELLY, falsely imprisoned for a train robbery.
Both stars are keen to play Kelly, who was jailed for 12 years in 1976 and finally pardoned in 1995, in a projected new biopic.
Kelly says, "Movie bosses at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS in Los Angeles think it's a great human story. There's a very good possibility of a deal this year (01). They flew me over to discuss it." "It was obscene what they spent on me, but I suppose it's a pittance to them." Kelly is now an independent councillor and wants to run for the Irish parliament in the next elections. (RXT/IS/NFA)
