After listening to a reporter's original tapes, the publishers of Jane magazine have issued a formal apology to Liz Hurley for a story in which the model-actress was quoted as making disparaging remarks about former boyfriend Hugh Grant. The article, published under the headline "Down and Dirty with Elizabeth Hurley," quoted Hurley as saying, among other things, that her sex life with Grant was "less than adequate." It was picked up by news outlets throughout the world.

In its apology, the Jane publishers said, "The tape recording itself of the reporter's interview contains no derogatory statements by Ms. Hurley about Mr. Grant or her relationship with him, including no reference by Ms. Hurley to her sex with Mr Grant being inadequate."
