Scottish nationalist SIR SEAN CONNERY made a fortune betting on rival country England's soccer team last week (END2SEP01). Connery, 71, an advocate of Scottish independence, confessed that he placed a bet on England's glorious 5-1 thrashing of Germany last Saturday (1SEP01) in a WORLD CUP qualifying soccer match.
The HIGHLANDER (1986) star made things worse by then saying that Scotland have no chance of qualifying for the World Cup - a tournament that always sees them knocked out in the first round. (PDD/WNTST/KW)
