Film To Spoof Hollywood Violence

Director Ridley Scott (Thelma and Louise, Alien, Gladiator, Hannibal) has agreed to direct a movie version of British comedian Ben Elton's novel-turned-hit-stageplay Popcorn, which satirizes Hollywood's fondness for violent movies, the London Daily Express reported today.

The story concerns a Hollywood director, famous for his violent films, who is seized by a pair of crazed gunmen whose recent killing spree was prompted by the director's movies. "I've written the script for it," Elton told the Express, "but it's not at the casting stage yet. Obviously it's exciting to see your work done on such a large scale."
