Vanilla Sky's George Harrison Tribute

TOM CRUISE has left movie fans stunned - by paying tribute to late BEATLES legend GEORGE HARRISON in his new film VANILLA SKY (2001). The movie - which also stars Cruise's girlfriend Penélope Cruz - wrapped early this year (01). But in preview screenings last Friday (30th November 2001) - the same day news was released of Harrison's death the previous day (29th November 2001) - audiences gasped when Cruise's character David describes lead guitarist George as his favourite Beatle.

In the movie, Tom says, "I always liked George." Director CAMERON CROWE describes the response, "The response from the audience was audible. It was like an ache." Crowe was so moved by the screening's response, he actually called Cruise and the two considered scrapping the line. He says, "We were both so sad. Tom and I kept saying, 'Can you believe he's dead?' We decided it would be too late to change the line now and how it's almost more meaningful now. " (CPBP&IG/ET/ES)
