The ensemble cast of OCEAN'S 11 (2001) has swept aside boy wizard Harry Potter to top the American box office charts. After three weeks at number one, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE (2001) made way for Ocean's 11 (2001), a remake of an old Rat Pack vehicle about a heist in Las Vegas.
According to studio estimates yesterday (9th December 2001), Ocean's 11 (2001), which stars GEORGE CLOONEY, BRAD PITT, JULIA ROBERTS and MATT DAMON, took $39. 3 million (£27. 4 million) from moviegoers in the United States and Canada in its opening weekend.
Harry Potter pulled in $14. 8 million (£10. 5 million), taking its 24-day total to $239 million (£171 million). War flick BEHIND ENEMY LINES (2001) slipped one spot to number three, while monsters, Inc. (2001) was steady at number four and SPY GAME (2001) dropped to number five. (MCM/WNWR)
