Spike Lee's Football Hero Jailed

Just a day after movie maker Spike Lee championed American
footballer Jim Brown, the sportsman has been sentenced to a 180-day jail sentence for smashing the windows of his wife's car.

Lee has been left more than a little red-faced after learning of Brown's latest conviction. The 67-year-old was arrested during a 1999 argument with his wife Monique at their Hollywood Hills home.

Judge Dale Fisher sentenced Brown to a spell at a Ventura County jail in court in Los Angeles yesterday (13th March 2002). Lee, who has just finished making a TV movie about temperamental Brown's life, All American, told reporters at the weekend, "No one has had the kind of life Jim's had."

"Not only is he the greatest footballer ever - he's also an entrepreneur and activist who has made some great contributions."
