Diaz Reluctant To Make Charlie's Sequel

Sexy actress Cameron Diaz had to be seriously convinced to appear in the sequel to spy babes action movie Charlie's Angels (2000). Diaz was reluctant to retread old ground and give up some promised time off - but, despite finally signing up when she was handed a record breaking $20 million (£14. 3 million) paycheque, she claims it was friendship and the script which tipped the balance.

The 29-year-old, paying tribute to co-stars Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore, says, "I knew that I wanted to work with the girls again but I wasn't sure that I would want to do it in Charlie's Angels (2000), because I felt that it was something I had already done - I don't like to revisit things much. " However, one look at the new script convinced her to reprise her role as leggy blonde Natalie Cook.

She explains, "I read the script. I saw it was totally fun and it reminded me of how much fun we had and how great it was. It was a hard decision to make because I'm taking this year (2002) off and I told myself I wouldn't do anything until the end of the year. "

The girls will start training for the physically taxing movie in June (2002), with shooting beginning in September (2002).
