Tom Hanks is to star in a remake of the classic British comedy Ladykillers, The (1955), in a role first played by Sir Alec Guinness.

The 1955 comedy set in London tells the story of a gang of crooks who rent a house with an old landlady they think they can easily kill. The gang try to fool the elderly lady into collecting their loot but then can't bring themselves to harm her.

The story this time is set to be relocated to America and has been threatening a Hollywood remake for a long time along with other films including British comedy Italian Job, The (1969).

Filming is due to start early next year.
