Certificate Breakthrough For Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen

In an unprecedented move Inverclyde Council has made the decision to disregard the BBFC awarded 18 certificate given to Sweet Sixteen & re classify the film as a 15 certificate.

Ken Loach had this to say following the breakthrough decision:

“We really respect the maturity with which the Inverclyde Council have handled this situation. At last someone has shown some common sense and understanding that the language of young people is not going to corrupt them if they hear it in the Cinema rather than on the street. We look forward to other councils following this example. At last common sense breaks through”.

This news follows the film’s success at the 5th annual British Independent Film Awards last night

Sweet Sixteen (2002) was awarded the most prestigious award for The Best British Independent Film & star Martin Compston picked up the award for Most Promising Newcomer

Sweet Sixteen Directed by KEN LOACH Screenplay by PAUL LAVERTY Produced by Rebecca O’Brien is on release across the country NOW.
