New Harry Potter film tops US box office


Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) has taken less money than the Philosopher's Stone during its first weekend in US cinemas.

However, the film has had the third best opening weekend in American box office history.

Chamber Of Secrets has taken $87.7 million over the weekend compared to $90.3 million for Philosopher's Stone.

Spider-Man still holds the record for the most money taken during a film's opening weekend with $114.8 million.

Last week's top film 8 Mile, which stars Eminem, dropped to second with $21.3 million.
