Australian actress Cate Blanchett is tipped to play an English Sunday newspaper journalist captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Blanchett, 33, has been earmarked for the role of Yvonne Ridley by scriptwriter Gordon Thomas, who is seeking backing for the project.
Thomas said Blanchett would "suit the role perfectly", the Daily Express said today.
"It's still at a very early stage but I'm certain Yvonne's story would make a brilliant film," he said.
Ridley, 44, faced being tried as a spy and sentenced to death after being arrested in Afghanistan last September.
She was eventually released.
Blanchett has already starred as one intrepid journalist, playing the lead earlier this year in a movie about murdered Dublin journalist Veronica Guerin.
