Catherine, Renee and Nicole up for Golden Globes


Chicago: The Musical (2002) has been nominated for eight Golden Globes.

The film is up for best musical or comedy, both Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta Jones are nominated for best actress and Richard Gere is nominated for best actor.

Hours, The (2002) has seven nominations including best film drama, best actress for Nicole Kidman and supporting actor for Ed Harris.

Nicolas Cage's latest film Adaptation (2002) is up for six awards including best musical or comedy, screenplay by Charlie Kaufman and best comedy actor for Nicolas Cage.

The new Lord Of The Rings: 2 Towers (2002), is nominated for best film drama alongside Gangs Of New York (2001), Hours, The (2002), About Schmidt (2002) and Pianist, The (2002).

The nominees for best musical or comedy film are Chicago, Adaptation, About A Boy (2002), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2001) and Nicholas Nickleby (2002). The Golden Globes will be awarded on January 19.

The nominees for best dramatic actress are Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Salma Hayek, Julianne Moore and Diane Lane. Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Michael Caine and Adrien Bordy are the best dramatic actor nominees.

Kathy Bates, Cameron Diaz, Queen Latifah, Susan Sarandon and Meryl Streep will compete in the supporting actress category. Supporting actor nominees are Chris Cooper, Ed Harris, Paul Newman, Dennis Quaid and John C. Reilly.

In the comedy/musical actor category the nominees are Nicolas Cage, Hugh Grant, Kieran Culkin, Richard Gere and Adam Sandler.

Besides Zellweger and Zeta-Jones, Nia Vardalos received a musical or comedy actress mention, along with Goldie Hawn and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Directing nominees included Martin Scorsese, Peter Jackson, Stephen Daldry, Spike Jonze, Rob Marshall and Alexander Payne.
