Day Lewis and Caine up for best actor
Daniel Day Lewis and Sir Michael Caine are among the British actors up for an Oscar at this year's Academy Awards.
The stars are shortlisted for the best actor award, along with Jack Nicholson for About Schmidt (2002), Nicolas Cage for Adaptation (2002), and Adrien Brody for Pianist, The (2002).
Other Brit nominees include Catherine Zeta Jones for her role in Chicago: The Musical (2002), and director Stephen Daldry for The Hours.
The Hours scooped six nominations including best director for Daldry and best actress for its star Nicole Kidman.
Nominees in 10 of the 24 categories were announced by actress Marisa Tomei, in a dawn ceremony in Los Angeles.
