Naomi Watts has joined Ewan McGregor for new supernatural thriller Stay.

The movie is due to start shooting in late September for director Marc Forster.

Penned by David Benioff, it is about a psychologist at an Ivy League university, who tries to prevent one of his students from committing suicide.

Watts will play the lead female role, the girlfriend of McGregor's character, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The actress is currently in San Francisco shooting The Assassination of Richard Nixon, opposite Sean Penn and Don Cheadle.

She can next be seen opposite Kate Hudson in James Ivory's Le Divorce, due out in August.
