A friend of Jennifer Lopez says the singer has not yet abandoned all hope of marrying Ben Affleck.

Lopez's friend said the couple are expected to meet up in the next few days to discuss the crisis in their relationship.

She told People magazine: "Only the two of them know how it might turn out. Either way, she's one to confront her problems. I'm sure they're going to scream, cry and laugh and maybe figure this out.

"They're going to sit down and talk. They've spoken on the phone, but it's different in person. They need to do it away from the glare of New York and Los Angeles."

The magazine also quoted sources close to J-Lo saying the pop diva "still thinks there is a chance".

Affleck is believed to have flown to his £4.4 million ranch in Savannah, Georgia, while Lopez is in Miami.

Although they are apart, another source said to be close to the couple told the magazine the "embers" of their relationship were still burning.

"It's not dead. You know when the fire burns out there are a few embers. That's where we are now," the source said.

Affleck's father, Tim, added: "I couldn't possibly tell you one way or another what's going through Jennifer's mind or Ben's mind."

Talk of a split emerged when the couple called off their wedding, ahead of the scheduled September 14 date.
