Salma Hayek has agreed to star in the love story of freediver Francisco Ferreras and his wife Audrey Mestre.
She will play Mestre, who died last year as she tried to better her world record of descending 557.7 feet while holding a single breath.
Mestre learnt the extreme sport of freediving from her Cuban-born husband, and subsequently broke his record.
The 20th Century Fox film will be directed by James Cameron for a 2005 release, reports Univison.
Ferreras is attempting to match his wife's world record in Cabo San Lucas this weekend.
