X-FILES fans are set to be up in arms over DAVID DUCHOVNY's character replacement in the hit sci-fi series - because GILLIAN ANDERSON's character SCULLY dislikes him.

FBI agent JOHN DOGGETT - a non-believer in extra terrestrials - will be played by TERMINATOR 2 star ROBERT PATRICK. He replaces Duchovny's character FOX MULDER, who, in the storyline has been abducted by aliens.

Producer FRANK SPOTNITZ says, "I don't expect the fans will like him, because Scully doesn't."

But Anderson kept fans' hopes alive, saying, "I hope people can open their minds enough to allow a natural progression."
