Jack Black to star in King Kong remake

Jack Black has been cast by Peter Jackson for his new King Kong remake.

Commenting on the role, Black said: "Some people say I am starting to look like him. Maybe that's true, maybe we are very alike."

The School of Rock star added: "Jackson liked the movie I did a long time ago called High Fidelity and I've been a huge fan of his for a long time."

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, he said: "I got a call from the master Mr Jackson to come in and talk about King Kong. There was no audition."

Black believes he has the Lord Of The Rings' director's son to thank for landing the part.

"I suspect that really it was his child who liked me in School of Rock and talked him into casting me in King Kong just so that he could hang out with me. So I have to thank the young offspring."

Black is also cast as a shark in a new cartoon film, Shark Tale, with Will Smith, Robert De Niro and Angelina Jolie.

He's says he's very much looking forward to the stories linking him with his leading lady.

But he adds he can only dream they will be true, particularly as he never even met his co-stars in the making of the film.
