Eddie Murphy to play hip-hop detective

Eddie Murphy is reportedly being lined up to star in a movie about a retired rapper who turns private eye.

DreamWorks and Imagine have commissioned Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, to write Johnny Blaze, says Variety.

The action comedy would star Murphy as an old-school rapper who retires and becomes a private detective who solves crimes within the hip-hop world.

Variety also says Murphy has also agreed to voice Shrek 3 for DreamWorks.
