Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to star in a new, darker take on Lewis Carroll's Alice.

The new version is based on the Electronic Arts video game Alice, reports Variety.

Alice is the sole survivor of a disaster which has killed her family and destroyted her home.

She returns to a dark and threatening Wonderland where she must confront her fears before returning to normal life.

Director will be Marcus Nispel who made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
