Stars attend Chocolate Factory premiere

Stars including Johnny Depp have attended the US premiere of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Depp, who plays Willy Wonka in the film, said his inspiration for the character was "part game show host, part children's show host...locked in a closet for about 10 or 15 years".

Britney Spears and Melanie Griffith also attended the premiere reports BBC online.

Speaking about Depp's role in the film director Tim Burton said: "I think Johnny brings a great edge to Willy Wonka. He invites kids to the factory and gives them sweets and chocolates, but on the other hand the four of them meet a sticky end."

The film based on Roald Dahl's original book also stars the director's fiancée Helena Bonham Carter and Depp's Finding Neverland co-star, Freddie Highmore.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is released in the UK on 29 July.
