Jackie Chan has reassured fans he is alive and well after rumours of his death began to circulate on the internet.

The Rush Hour star was rumoured to have died of a heart attack aged 56 after pranksters began to report the hoax on social networking sites and 'RIP Jackie Chan' was soon trending on Twitter.

A statement on Jackie's official Facebook page said: "Jackie is alive and well. He did not suffer a heart attack and die, as was reported on many social networking sites and in online news reports."

"Jackie is fine and is busy preparing for the filming of his next movie."

The Karate Kid star also posted a picture on his official website jackiechan.com showing him meeting with Yuji Kumamaru, Consul-General of Japan, in Hong Kong on Tuesday to discuss a charity benefit for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Jackie is helping organise the Love Without Borders 3/11 Candelight Gala on April 1 at Victoria Park in Hong Kong.
