One of the stars of MTV's Jackass has died in a car crash in Pennsylvania, police said.

Ryan Dunn, 34, was killed in his Porsche alongside an unidentified passenger at around 3am local time.

Officers said their car left the road and burst into flames near the Philadelphia suburb of West Chester.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.

A picture posted by Dunn on social networking site Tumblr , linked from his Twitter account a short time before the crash, showed him and two others holding drinks.

The daredevil appeared in the MTV show Jackass from 2000 to 2002 and appeared in all three Jackass films, as well as the 2003 movie Haggard.

During the making of the first Jackass film, Dunn was famously knocked out during a stunt when he was thrown from a golf cart and it landed on top of him. Co-star Johnny Knoxville was injured.
