Fox in the running for Taylor role

Lindsay Lohan is facing competition from Megan Fox for the role of Elizabeth Taylor in a new TV movie.

It was already known that Li-Lo is in the frame to portray the late Hollywood legend in the upcoming biopic, and now executive producer Larry Thompson has revealed that he's also been in talks with former Transformers actress Megan.

He told E! News: "I've been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox."

He added: "It's a very serious selection. It's like casting for Hollywood royalty."

The exec producer hasn't indicated whether Lindsay or Megan - who co-starred in 2004's Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen - is the frontrunner, but according to TMZ.com, sources say Lindsay is very close to signing a deal.

The biopic for cable network Lifetime is called Liz & Dick and would chronicle the tempestuous love affair between Elizabeth and Welsh actor Richard Burton, who she married twice.

So far no director has been attached to the project, which has been in development since last year.
