The Farrelly Brothers have confirmed that they're nearly finished writing the sequel to their 1994 breakthrough comedy 'Dumb & Dumber'.

The project has been on and off for several years, but now appears to be making serious advances.

The brothers revealed on their Twitter feed: “You also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To (sic) script. I think you're going to like it.”

The Farrellys had previously planned to begin filming the sequel in September.

At the pair's press junket for their reboot of 'The Three Stooges', Peter Farrelly said: “It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.

“Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb & Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'”
