Gleason Gets Statue In New York

In what was described as the Viacom channel's "first effort to honor ... TV Land Landmarks," an eight-foot bronze statue of Jackie Gleason in his Ralph Kramden Honeymooners costume was unveiled in New York Monday.

The statue is due to be permanently installed at the entrance of the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan.

In a news release, Larry W. Jones, the executive vice president and general manager of TV Land, said, "As Jackie Gleason's Ralph Kramden character evokes New York City, TV Land felt strongly that the Port Authority Bus Terminal was the perfect location from which to kick off this initiative, which we're optimistic we'll be bringing to other landmarks around the country over the next few years."

The statement did not indicate which other actors and actresses from TV's past will be similarly honored.
