Rosamund Pike has landed the coveted female lead in new movie Gone Girl.

The British actress has been offered and is expected to accept the starring role opposite Ben Affleck in the mystery thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Several other big name actresses had been linked to the part of a woman who goes missing under mysterious circumstances, including Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt. Abbie Cornish and Olivia Wilde had also been in the running.

Ben will star as the husband of the woman who vanished, who ends up being a suspect.

No other confirmed casting details are known although it has now been reported that Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are tipped for supporting roles.

The movie is based on the book by Gillian Flynn and will be directed by David Fincher. It is set to go into production in September.
