Benedict Cumberbatch: ‘Star Wars’ Won’t Happen.

Benedict Cumberbatch has dashed the hopes and dreams of thousands of Cumberbabes and Warsies alike.

The actor has long been rumoured to be up for a part in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming ‘Star Wars’ movie, due to his relationship with the director following their collaboration on ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’.

But, though the actor was up for an adventure the galaxy far, far away, it wasn’t to be.

Speaking to Australian entertainment site The Iris, Cumberbatch finally laid the rumours to rest, saying: "I would've liked a part in JJ's new Star Wars but it won't happen, sadly."

Rumours had circulated that both Cumberbatch and his Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy co-star Gary Oldman had been approached to play the same part.

Oldman confirmed in February that conversations were ongoing, telling Sky Movies: "They’ve called. I’m more cynical about it now. I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done, but yeah, they’ve inquired."

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch has to disappoint another huge fandom, Whovians, by asserting that he’ll never be given the key to the Tardis.

"I'm never gonna play the Doctor – and nothing to do with the Whoniverse," he said, making several small children cry in the process.

Cumberbatch will next be seen on the big screen playing famous codebreaker Alan Turing in the upcoming biopic, The Imitation Game.
