Relatives of Frank William Tyne, portrayed in The Perfect Storm by George Clooney, have filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. accusing the studio of falsely depicting Tyne and suggesting that he acted "in an unprofessional, unseaworthy and incompetent manner" that led to his death and the loss of his crew.

In a statement to the New York Post, Ned McLeod, the lawyer for the Tyne family, said, "Given the extent of dramatization and fictionalization in the picture ... we believe Warner Bros. or the producers should have either come to the Tyne family and asked for the life story rights or consent to dramatize their lives in that way."
