‘X-Men’ Producer Says Channing Tatum Gambit Movie Still a Go.

The Channing Tatum-starring “Gambit” has been in development for quite some time. Now, thanks to writer-producer Simon Kinberg it looks like production for the film might start in the spring of 2017.

"We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning - or spring - of next year," Kinberg said during an interview at the 2016 Saturn Awards.

The solo movie for the card-throwing Cajun was supposed to be released in theaters this year, but then Rupert Wyatt was replaced as director with Doug Liman. Because of the delay its October release has been pushed to an undetermined date.

If you need a reminder on the character, Gambit was created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and and Jim Lee. He’s a mutant with the ability to manipulate kinetic energy. His favorite demonstration of that power is through his trademark playing cards. He’s a bit of a Casanova, a quality that was probably intended to be charming but often comes across as creepy.
