Matthew Bright - Details

Biography

MATTHEW BRIGHT received considerable critical acclaim for his directorial debut with the darkly satiric FREEWAY, which he also wrote, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Reese Witherspoon and executive produced by Oliver Stone. Written as part of a trilogy providing a macabre modern take on famous fairy tales, Trickbaby, with it’s Hansel & Gretel theme follows FREEWAY, loosely based on Little Red Riding Hood.

While Bright has been writing and developing projects for years, it’s only recently that he has begun to direct his own work. Given the admittedly controversial nature of his films, Bright feels that this is largely due to the political climate in America.

My whole adult life, says Bright, has been during a Republican pestilence, I couldn’t get anything produced in those days because of censorship. Now, thanks to Clinton, I can get produced.
